Description

In 1968 the Milwaukee's Coast Division was still wired and powered but not seeing much traffic. Much of what was running was with diesels so the old box cabs were mostly parked.

Late in the evening on June 30, 1968 I wandered the Tacoma yard and found what was actually 1 of 4 of a kind, 2 of which had already been stripped for parts. Electrically they were the same as the more common EF-1's but they were EP-1s with sheet metal smoothed cab fronts. #42 behind is a flat face EF. #22 in front is the only EP in sight, kinda reminisent of an SP cab forward I think.

The "P" was for Passenger and at one point they were painted Armour Yellow and hauled the Olympian Hiawatha. For more details see the Wiki entry on this family of motors [link]

The difference between the EF-1s and EP-1s was in a semi-streamlined cab-front?
