Description

I've been hoarding this slide cuz I just love it so much. Hope you don't mind that I set it up to display full size.

Joe :iconjdawg9806: was asking whether my previous post was an F3 or F7. This is Santa Fe F3 #30C built in 1948, photographed in 1968. It is the trailing unit from a matched A-B-B-A set numbered 30L (for Lead), 30A (a B-unit), 30B, and 30C. When you look at it closely you see that the door headlight is not the original (on the F7 it was standard), the fuel tanks don't have the F7 shroud and according to Iron Horses of the Santa Fe Trail by E.D. Worley, the classic F7 grills were also tacked on later. Definitely a cosmetic upgrade done by the Santa Fe cuz it cared about appearances.

Solid shots all! I especially like to see these cool engines working, like this one.
