Artist's Comments

I previously posted a photo of a train inside the Cologne trainshed. This is yet another of the DB's ubiquitous beetle shaped engines. Note all the people looking rearwards and listening for the trademark conductor's whistle signal to leave.... and the curious standpipe.

Some of these old DC units date to prewar times, and production continued after the war. They're mostly gone now though, replaced by 3-phase AC units developed in the late 70's. They flooded the system in the 90's.

This is a very distant cousin to NJ Transit ALP46 Electrics which where designed after the current DB101's.
