This afternoon the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief leaves Naperville almost on time as the eastbound approaches about 90 minutes late.
Ahhh this brings back memories, used to walk along the Northern Burlington tracks as a kid.
Ah, it is always a beautiful site to see #3 and #4 together. I've only ever seen them meet around Lamy, NM.
Great framing, albeit lucky at best.
Thanks. I ran off about 6 shots as they approached tweaking the zoom as they both moved. Because I was shooting in to the afternoon sun I was lucky to get anything.
Very smart shot.
i definately want to take one of the longer distance trains some time....ive only been on the Cardinal from connersville, IN to its end in chicago and back....that was a fun, but very long and exhausting day that i will never forget.
If you've put the pieces together from some of my pix you will figure out that I used to do that a lot... hop a night train to some place... hang around the yards and stations snapping pictures part of the day then take an evening ride home again.
what are those lying on the ground?
Those are new railroad ties ready for installation. Because of the telephoto lens I was using at the time to get both trains in the shot the ties are foreshortened and don't appear to be the correct length.
90 minutes late? That's extreme.
But not unusual.
Actually with Amtrak that's very good. The SW Chief originates in Los Angeles, around 2,000 miles from here. It has been known to be so late it was canceled and combined with the next day's run.
That was a fun ride. It'll be even better when I finally get to ride it all the way.
