In July 1993 my 6 year old son, 7 year old daughter, and I climb climb aboard the CZ for a 300 mile ride into Chicago from Osceola, Iowa.

Been on the Coast Starlight twice, once to Portland and once to Eugene. Been on the Surfliners numerous times.

Rode the Southwest Chief years ago. I have plans to do it again in the very near future.

I haven't yet ridden the CZ, but I've been aboard the Texas Eagle and the Southwest Chief several times.

yes... it's sad to realize how far behind we are... American rails are focused on moving freight and passenger service does not fit well into the mix on the same rails

Around here, it's the other way around, high speed passenger service gets most of the attention, as customers have to be lured away from cars and planes. Regionals get less attention, as those who use them usually don't have a choice, and freight trains... Well, there are too many trucks clogging up the roads, so I guess they lost quite a bit of their importance, especially now that the economy has hit hard times.
