Chicago's Union Station was the Eastern terminus for Burlington Zephyrs, the North Coast Limited, the Empire Builder and more. Here one of those trains is eastbound about 20 miles out on the "Racetrack" from Aurora where trains both in and out could make up a few minutes.

This same place today.

I really like the perspective on this one. Especially the end of the old box car your standing on. If you do come up to see our lay out, could you possibly bring some of the photos? The other members would love to look through them.

Do yourself a favor. Get the facts right before you argue with me. Otherwise you might get a boot full of concrete reality headed for your head.

Thanks...

Yes... there are trains I miss and these were some of them. Amtrak isn't the same.

I too like the high perspective on this shot. It's interesting to see what the town trackside looked like back then. It's very different now I think. You're shots are a great historical record.

You can almost feel the rush in this shot! A nice little slice of America too! Is the station still there?

the trains still stop in Lisle but the station and platforms have probably been replaced... when i scanned these 2 slides my first thought was... i gotta go retake this! since it's only 5 miles from where I work it's a lunchtime trip.

Is there a reason why the mains are offset like that?

I find it funny you're standing on top of a covered hopper to get the shot. :giggle:
