Description
The South Shore had it's own hook. I have no idea how much use it got. A couple of interesting things... note the insulated guard on the top of the beam... just in case it came to close to the overhead wire... and then there's the paint. Like the J, the South Shore picked colors which did not weather well.

NEAT!! This is very cool! I've always wondered what these things looked like.
My grandfather worked for the Big Four railroad...down in Ohio? or maybe it was in Indiana...anyway they had some of their own hooks. He saw at least one derailment, but it was on Grand Trunk trackage near Howell, MI. back in the 60's or 70's.
Thanks for sharing this picture. I wonder though, if anyone has ever restored one of these, or if any are in a RR museum? Food for thought.
