Small Town, Big Trains by classictrains Small Town, Big Trains by classictrains
To celebrate 10K page views I pulled out another Santa Fe Warbonnet.... for me and all of you out there for whom this is your favorite American paint.

Joliet isn't really a "small" town but if you were heading to the Southwest it was far better to catch your train here than to go into Chicago. Here a Santa Fe streamliner is loading up while people are lining up for a GM&O train pulling in. In a couple of hours there will be a Rock Island Rocket on the rails crossing these just behind me. If you really wanted to go into the City, there were hourly commuter runs on the Rock.

I need to go back to an old OG to figure out just what trains these are.

I think that the Santa Fe Warbonnet on an Alco PA was so beautiful, it was practically blinding.

(didn't look too bad on the E's and F's, too)

I know whacha mean. I've got a couple more AT&SF PA junkyard shots I've been holding back. Looking at them makes me sad. (I assume you've seen the ones I already posted?)

Nothing has ever come close to the beauty of a Warbonnet. Like shenanigan, I too wish I could travel backwards sometimes.

Many american railroads have or have had great liveries (and I learned about most of them by seeing your pictures), but the Warbonnet is still my absolute favorite. Great picture!

I think the non elevated platform really shows off the size of these things. But damn, 1966, I feel so young now :XD: Whenever I see train pictures from that time, be it from the US or Germany, I always wish one could travel back there to feel the difference to today firsthand.
