Shop Engine

Description

Almost every railroad shop has a unit that they keep around to shuffle dead engines. Here in North Platte I found this F9 over the pits. It was built as an F3 (note the grills) but re-rated to F9 somewhere along the way. These units were retired in 1972 and I caught #521 on the trade-in line in McCook then.

This shot was originally in color but it was shot straight into the sun, the unit was in full shade and the color was way off.

That type of cab doesn't make for the best switching.  I hope they changed the gearing.
