A narrow gauge switchstand on the White Pass and Yukon. The red arrow indicates to an oncoming train that it is set for the diverging route.

The standard hand throw switch machine of the universe, the Racor 22

I know them well. :)

I'll bet! I expected more antiques here... but in a way I'm not really surprised.

--
I dunno... whada you think?
:iconlabrat-78:
Not really an antique. They are still in production and our new yard at Watts is full of brand new ones with the ergonomic handles on them like the one in the photo.

22E like this one is pretty new, trailable and will last longer than most railroaders careers.

Aren't these switch stands able to withstand a run-through without requiring repair as well?
:iconclassictrains:
I had trouble believing it until I saw it... the WP&Y runs through them all the time.

According to KCS policy, there are zero run-through switches on the property; however, the company has hundreds of these switches everywhere...curious?
:iconclassictrains:
I work for a company that has a lot of policies too. The logic behind them isn't always a physical constraint.

I would guess so, judging by the housing, it seems like they may have some kind of fluid dampening device just for that purpose.
