In an interesting contrast, a brand new EMD SD-45 is on it's way west to be delivered to the NP. It's the last thing in the train except for the Q caboose, an antique wood sheathed creature.

I think it's supposed to be black. I struggled with the color balance on this scan. The picture is actually a bit on the blue side but when I pulled back on the blue it went yellow. I tried to balance it out with red but then it looked even further off.

Nothing like a shot of a locomotive when it is first brand new. What boggles my mind it the advances in technology between then and now, in my lifetime, makes this shot something to sit back and reminisce with a good cup of coffee. :)

I was fortunate enough to live close to the McCook EMD plant in it's prime. There are several "new" shots here... including KCS 601. Unfortunately there was a scrap line here too so I got both ends of diesel life.

Living near the EMD plant let me get several new, clean shots.
