Box Cars

Description

Class I American trains today are mostly collections of container cubes, grain or coal hoppers with the occasional rolling oil pipeline thrown in to break up the monotony. In 1967 Chicago Great Western ALCo S2 #8 breaks down a train on Chicago's west side. The yard here is full of mostly road owned box cars with a few flats, gons and hoppers. The prevailing colors are variations of "Box Car Red" with differing thicknesses of dirt overlays.

How things have changed! For those alive at this time in this place, the radio ads for "Magikist Rug Cleaners" were a fixture and the sign is visible on the skyline. [link]
