I haven't been back to check out the IHB in 40 years. So since it was hot and sticky and the air conditioning in my car wasn't working I decided to go out with my camera. (Hey! I'm a railfan. It makes sense.)
As many people know the Canadian National is trying to buy the EJ&E so it can bypass Chicago. They have said it takes less time to get a train from Winnipeg to the North Side of Chicago than it does to get it from the North Side to the East Side. The EJ&E is also known as the Outer Belt. The Harbor is sometimes called the Inner Belt and here a CN train creeps slowly southward on the reds of the train in front and followed by a string of others... each one of which is hopping from grade crossing to grade crossing... trying to keep from breaking the law.
And in case you want to come out here... this is the 31st Street crossing.
Well, you know the old video gamer's saying: "Skill is when luck becomes a habit." I'm convinced that this applies (at least to some degree) to railroad photography as well.
Then just hop a train east to New York and check out Sully's turf.
