Artist's Comments

One way to see trains is of course to ride them. Your options of stopping to take pictures and wander the yards are limited but you do have the advantage of being legally on railroad property. Riding the NP in 1967 I managed to capture a lot of equipment. Rolling out of Staples, Minnesota I captured this Alco RS-11.

Roster information courtesy of the NP Railway Historical Society.

There is a lesson here. This was shot early in a summer evening on Anscocrome. :-( I find it hard to believe the grain that has showed up in the scan and the deterioration. This is my third attempt to patch it up.

I always liked those brake wheels in their circular recesses. And those chiseled noses! :D

Sad to say... no. I looked for them for years. Got almost everything but the H24-66 :-(

I dunno... whada you think?

Yep. Those sandboxes let you spot these guys a mile away.

Film always seems to have a higher amount of grain when converted to digital than when left in a physical analog state.

One thing I've found that helps with noise/grain issues is the blur tool. When coupled with the right brush head, it works wonders for many things.

I'd say you've done a damn good job here though.

In many of the deviation updates I am posting this is exactly what i am doing to the sky... blur... or more commonly average.
